20th century playwright Athol Fugard from South-Africa with his humorous, melancholic but aslo absurd situations in the play Siin elavad inimesed (People are Living There) inspired me as a designer to create stage and costumes in the atmosphere of Edward Hopper paintings. Surprising colors in the space together with the costumes and otherwise modernist minimalistic forms serves the attempt to be remembered but also questioned supporting the main action in the story – to organize a jubilee party to counter the gray thoughts.
